How to Integrate Nowdesk with WordPress
Create a Nowdesk Account
Sign up and complete onboarding. Go to Settings → Miscellaneous → Installation URL and copy your installation URL.
Install a Script Manager Plugin
Install a plugin such as Insert Headers and Footers or use your theme's functions.php to inject scripts sitewide.
Paste the Embed Scripts
Add the following two lines to the footer section, replacing [YOUR-SITE-URL] with your Nowdesk installation URL.
<!-- Nowdesk Live Chat --> <script src="[YOUR-SITE-URL]/js/min/jquery.min.js"></script> <script id="sbinit" src="[YOUR-SITE-URL]/js/main.js"></script>
Save and Verify
Save the settings and open your site in a new incognito tab. The Nowdesk chat bubble should appear within seconds.
Customise the Widget
Return to Nowdesk → Settings to adjust colours, greeting messages, operating hours, and AI responses.
Common Questions
Not necessarily. The embed includes its own jQuery loader (jquery.min.js). If your WordPress theme already loads jQuery — which most do — you can safely skip that first script tag to avoid loading it twice.
The id="sbinit" attribute is required by the Nowdesk widget initialiser. It uses this identifier to locate and bootstrap the chat widget on page load. Removing or changing it will prevent the widget from starting.
Yes. Because the scripts are added to footer.php or a footer-scripts plugin, they load independently of whichever page builder you use. No builder-specific block or integration is needed.
Yes. Wrap the embed scripts in a WordPress conditional tag, for example if ( ! is_page('checkout') ), to exclude specific pages. You can also control visibility from the Nowdesk dashboard without touching code.
Your server must run PHP 8.0 or higher and MySQL 5.5 or higher, with the CURL, ZIP Archive, and MBSTRING PHP modules enabled. File permissions should be 755 for folders and 644 for files, and [YOUR-SITE-URL]/include/ajax.php must be publicly accessible.
If you embedded the scripts directly in footer.php, you will need to re-add them to the new theme's footer file. Using the Nowdesk plugin or a header-and-footer plugin avoids this — scripts persist across theme changes automatically.
